I am a 63 year old female.  I have always been active and very strong.  A few years ago I began having periodic bouts of sciatica.  They were painful and debilitating but they always went away.  Last year I had a very bad attack that put me in bed for almost a month.  It eventually improved, but it never completely left.  I was almost always in pain and limped when I walked.  It seriously affected my life, and in my darkest moments I began to fear I would end up in a wheelchair.

I tried many different things to help it, but to no avail.  I thought about trying acupuncture, but never pursued it for financial reasons.  Then a friend told me about Edgewater Acupuncture and Meaghan.  I found out that she has a sliding scale that I could actually afford.  I began going to her three times a week.

The improvement was remarkable and although I began as an optimistic skeptic, I was quickly converted to an ardent believer.  I went for treatments three times a week for about 1 1/2 months, then twice a week for about a month, and now I go once a week.  My back is not "normal", there are days that it bothers me, and certain movements that I can't do.  But, compared to my condition when I began, I am terrific and very happy.

Meaghan does a very complete physical history on your first visit.  She really pays attention to it.  She noticed that I had been trying to stop a 45 year smoking habit and that I have had restless leg syndrome since I was a child.  She has been treating me for those problems as well.  The restless legs improved quickly, the smoking has taken longer.  I have not stopped completely, but I have done from a 2+ pack a day habit to about 4 cigarettes a day.  And, there are days that I don't smoke at all.  So, something is happening!

There are many other physical and mental/emotional changes that have taken place.  A crooked arthritic pinky finger is almost straight and no longer hurts.  My spirit feels lighter, I feel more peaceful, less hyper.  I just feel better in all ways.  I look forward to my weekly visits and hate it if I have to miss one.

I don't think a person needs to have a serious or painful problem to benefit from acupuncture.  I do think it can improve how anyone feels.  Some of the changes I have experienced are obvious, some are subtle... they are all good.

And, if the idea of having a needle put in you stops you from trying acupuncture, forget it.  It is nothing like getting a shot at the doctors.  The needles are as fine as a hair and they don't go in very far.  Most aren't felt at all, some might be a very slight pinch and rarely one elicits a small static electricity-like zing.  Nothing bad enough to stop anyone from trying it.

Meaghan herself is as wonderful as her abilities are.  She really cares about her people.  She looks you in the eye, she listens, she is totally non-judgmental, she answers any and all questions and she has a wonderful up-beat personality and sense of humor.

Meaghan and her practice is a healing and relaxing oasis in a hectic world.  She is providing a wonderful service in our area and I hope more people decide to take advantage of it.
