What to expect on your first visit

During your first visit with us you will have a consultation regarding the reason for your visit and your current and pertinent past health conditions.  You will have to opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and ask questions.  You will then proceed to the treatment area where you will relax in a comfortable recliner and we will read your pulses and look at your tongue.  You will be needled on distal points which means from the elbows to the fingers and knees to the toes.  A typical treatment lasts 20 min to 1 hour depending on the condition being treated.

Its important to remember that acupuncture is a process and you will likely require multiple treatments.  This could be once a week for four weeks or 3-4 times per week for several weeks.  Generally, the more severe or longstanding the condition the more frequent acupuncture treatments are indicated.  A treatment plan will be recommended to you on your first visit and we will check in with you regarding your progress on subsequent visits.

How to prepare for your visit

Eat a light meal or snack within 1 hour of your appointment.
Avoid perfumes or colognes.  Many of our patients including pregnant women or those undergoing chemotherapy are sensitive to strong odors.
Wear comfortable clothing that you can roll up to the elbows and knees easily.
Bring an ipod or earplugs if desired.
To save time, print and complete the new patient paperwork prior to your visit and bring it with you.
